MMA Offshore Limited has announced that it has been awarded a contract to manage research vessel (RV) Investigator on behalf of CSIRO.

The RV Investigator is part of the Marine National Facility, national research infrastructure funded by the Australian Government and managed by CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, on behalf of the nation.

The RV Investigator is a 94-metre ocean-class research vessel that was purpose built and commissioned by CSIRO to undertake biological, oceanographic, geological, and atmospheric research, as well as to provide maritime training, education, and outreach activities. The vessel can accommodate up to 40 researchers and technicians and 20 crew and has an endurance of 60 days and 10,000 nautical miles without resupply.

Under the contract, MMA will provide technical services, operational management and crew management for the RV Investigator utilising MMA’s significant in-house systems, maritime skills, and expertise.

The contract is for a period of 4 years (with 2 x 3-year options) and is anticipated to generate approximately $80M in revenue across the firm period.

Commenting on the contract, MMA’s Managing Director, Mr David Ross, said:

“We are extremely pleased to have been engaged by CSIRO to manage this unique vessel for the Marine National Facility. This contract award marks another major milestone in our diversification strategy with government services being a key target growth market for MMA. We look forward to supporting CSIRO and the Marine National Facility in its ongoing strategy of delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality marine research to benefit the nation.”
